It's almost that time of year again...

With the temps rising (eventually), it's just about time to break out the swim suits.  This of course means more than braving department stores to find a perfect fit... you also may want to tame the lower lion mane...

Want to try a brazilian wax, but have some questions?

Here's what I tell new clients:

Best thing to do for first-timers (or those who've not waxed in a while) is to shave the entire area 2 weeks prior to your appointment, and then just leave it. Optimal hair length is 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Anything more than that, and the hair has a higher chance of breaking (rather than being pulled completely out) and leads to a less-thorough wax and ingrown hairs. Of course, the first several waxes are never perfect. Hair grows on three different cycles, so some of the hair was going to fall out anyway, some is just under the skin ready to pop out, and the rest is in the perfect phase for removal. It takes a few months of consistent waxing to sync the cycles up, but eventually you get a really clean, long lasting wax. Totally worth it.

Bikini or Brazilian waxes, despite what Cosmo magazine would have you think, aren't that big of a deal (aren't only for special occasions). For the best wax possible, plan ahead. Book your appointment at least a week away from your menstrual cycle either way, because generally people are more sensitive during this time. Also, shave 2 weeks prior if you can like I mentioned above, but then don't mess with it. Another tip is to take Advil or Tylenol about 45 mins before your appointment (or do a shot or two downstairs at the 331club haha).
